Statutory Information

Schools are required to publish online information about how they have used the PE and Sport Premium. The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sporting activities they offer their pupils. The Government spent over £450 million on this funding over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2016 and has committed further funding for the next few years. The budget, goes directly to head teachers so that they can decide how best to use it.

Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £8,000 and an additional payment of £5 per pupil.

The PE and Sport Premium is used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. 

PE and sport premium 2016 - 2017

Avenue Primary Academy received £11,800 for the academic year 2016/17. It has been spent in the following ways:

Provision: PE Specialist Leader TLR and 1 day per week Teacher Cover

Cost: £3,800, Additionally £120 per day (1 x week) = £4,660

Impact:

  • Evaluation and update of action plan, identifying strengths and areas for development, allowing for clear target setting.
  • Development of a PE Team, enabling the school to build capacity and sustainability for the improvement of PE.
  • Staff meetings covering – teaching and learning of PE, planning, resourcing, teaching strategies, learning breaks and addressing areas raised from lesson observations/drop in visits.
  • Formal drop in visits of teachers – providing feedback and next steps, with follow up observations where needed or requested to further develop practice.
  • Team teaching (3 part lessons) with NQTs. Working alongside the teacher planning and teaching sequences of lessons jointly – allowing for the teacher to develop and improve their subject knowledge and skills.
  • PE Leader has been observed by a number of teachers enabling them to see the correct practice and build on their range of teaching strategies. In addition to this, the PE Leader/Team are available to support teachers with planning or teaching the subject.
  • Adapted new planning format and learning journey for the whole school to improve the planning of sequences of lessons, allowing for the children to build on their skills, progression across the unit and competition element.
  • Implementing and monitoring the planning of the new PE curriculum, ensuring minimum of 2 hours of PE is met each week.
  • Managed budget to purchase lots of new resources that will improve the provision and development of PE and sport in the school.
  • Created another PE storage area to ensure that equipment and resources are managed effectively.
  • Action Plan and evidence to support Sainsbury’s Games Mark Award 2016/17.
  • Regular meetings with Sports Leaders to support their delivery of sporting activities at playtime and during school sport events.
  • Promotion of extra-curricular sport, encouraging children to participate in a wide range of activities e.g football, netball, dance, multi-skills. Also working alongside different sporting agencies to provide more extra-curricular sports clubs.
  • Swimming – organising and timetabling swimming teachers for the Autumn and Summer Terms so each class receives an hour a week of swimming for two terms a year.

Provision: Equipment and resources

Cost: £6660

Impact:

  • A new range of sporting equipment for indoor and outdoor PE, including swimming and play, in order to impact on PE lessons and skill development.
  • Computing resources that have an annual subscription (e.g. SportPlan and CyberCoach) allow teachers to gain a better understanding and knowledge of different sports, dance and gymnastics. These are used in PE planning and lessons as an interactive tool.

Provision: Competitions

Cost: £480

Impact:

  • Participation in local competitions in football, netball, tag rugby, cross country, athletics, swimming, dodgeball and cricket.
  • Achieved Sainsbury’s Gold Games Mark Award 2015/16 

Provision: Leading CPD courses for the Teaching School

Cost: Income for the school

Impact: 

  • PE Leader delivered a training course to help local schools and teachers develop their knowledge and practise in outdoor games for NQT’s.
     

2017-18 Areas for Development

  • An audit of the subject was undertaken and a detailed action plan was created, identifying strengths and areas for development, allowing for clear target setting.
  • Development of a PE Team, enabling the school to build capacity and sustainability for the improvement of PE
  • Three Staff meetings covering – teaching and learning (indoor and outdoor), planning, resourcing, teaching strategies and addressing areas raised from lesson observations/drop in visits e.g. modelling
  • Formal lesson observations for all class teachers – providing feedback and next steps, with follow up observations where needed or requested to further develop practice.

  • Applied and received sponsorship for Avenue Football Club. A local business paid in full for two new football kits.
